Alessa Crossan, MD

Bio

Alessa Crossan, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon whose path to medicine began with a Stanford University degree in environmental science. Medical school and an ophthalmology residency came next, both at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and a subspecialty vitreoretinal surgical fellowship was completed at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Day to day, Dr. Crossan manages diseases of the retina and vitreous along with diabetic eye disease and cases that call for surgery. Diagnoses are guided by detailed imaging, including color fundus photography, angiography, ocular echography, and optical coherence tomography. Depending on the condition, treatment may involve laser, photodynamic therapy, cryotherapy, retinopexy, or medications delivered directly into the eye.

Board certification comes from the American Board of Ophthalmology, and Dr. Crossan holds active membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. In Dr. Crossan's own words, "I want every patient who comes to me with a retinal problem to leave understanding exactly what is happening and what we can do about it.
