Bio
Andrew Swan, MD, FACS, is a cataract surgeon & glaucoma specialist who began his education at Cornell University, where he first developed an interest in the science behind eye health. Dr. Swan then earned his medical degree from Buffalo State University, spending years mastering the medical and surgical side of eye care. Dr. Swan then completed an internship at Hospital of St. Raphael, gaining hands-on experience with real patients in a clinical setting. Dr. Swan then trained as a resident at Yale Eye Center, where the focus was on building real-world experience with patients day after day.
Dr. Swan specializes in Glaucoma Surgery and Diabetic Retinopathy, areas where focused expertise makes a real difference for patients. Glaucoma works quietly, and by the time most people notice something wrong, some damage may already have been done, so Dr. Swan emphasizes the importance of regular eye pressure checks and nerve evaluations. Because the retina is so essential to everyday vision, Dr. Swan takes a careful and thorough approach to monitoring it, making sure that any changes are caught and addressed right away. Dr. Swan rounds out his offerings with experience in Macular Degeneration, and General Ophthalmology, making for a well-rounded practice.
In addition to English, Dr. Swan also speaks Spanish, which makes it easier for patients who are more comfortable in their native language to feel at ease. Music is something Dr. Swan enjoys outside of work, whether that means playing or simply listening. Dr. Swan enjoys exploring new destinations in spare time, bringing a curiosity about the world into everything. Dr. Swan is available at ReFocus Eye Health Hamden or ReFocus Eye Health Cheshire, so patients can choose the spot that is most convenient.
