Originally from Leesburg, Virginia, Claiborne M. Callahan, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist. Undergraduate and medical degrees were both earned at the University of Virginia, the latter from its School of Medicine in 2000, following graduation with academic distinction in 1996. Ophthalmology residency training concluded at Tulane University in 2004.
Cataract surgery is the center of Dr. Callahan's practice, with thousands of procedures performed over a career that also spans glaucoma, eyelid, and laser surgery. A wide variety of eye conditions has been diagnosed and managed across many years in practice. Several educational meetings are attended each year so that diagnostic and treatment methods keep pace with advances in the field.
Dr. Callahan is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Care is delivered with clear communication and the highest ethical standards in the practice of medicine. In Dr. Callahan's own words, "My goal is to give every patient the time and clear explanation they deserve, so they leave understanding their eyes and confident in the plan we choose together. I hold myself to the highest ethical standards in everything I do." Patients are welcome at NewView Eye Center in Reston or Leesburg, whichever location is most convenient.
