Bio

Joshua Fernandes, MD, is a retina specialist who earned his undergraduate degree from Tulane University, setting the foundation for a career spent helping people see their best. Dr. Fernandes followed up with a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine, where the focus shifted to the detailed science of eye diseases and their treatment. Dr. Fernandes then completed an internship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, gaining hands-on experience with real patients in a clinical setting. After graduating, Dr. Fernandes completed a residency at University of Chicago, earning the title of chief resident along the way for outstanding clinical work. Dr. Fernandes finished his formal training with a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery, which allowed him to zero in on the kind of care he provides today.

Dr. Fernandes's specialty areas include Diabetic Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration, and that focused training is something patients benefit from right away. Healthy retinas are at the heart of clear vision, and Dr. Fernandes is trained to spot early signs of problems that, if left unchecked, could gradually affect how well a patient sees. Beyond the core specialties, Dr. Fernandes also handles Retina & Vitreous Disease, and Retinal Vascular Disorders, so patients do not have to look far for the care they need.
