Bio
Sarah Chang, MD, is a cataract surgeon & comprehensive ophthalmologist who chose to pursue a career in eye care after completing undergraduate studies at Stanford University. From there, Dr. Chang pursued and earned a medical degree at University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating cum laude, building expertise in diagnosis, treatment, and surgery. Dr. Chang then completed an internship at Mercy Medical Center, gaining hands-on experience with real patients in a clinical setting. After graduating, Dr. Chang completed a residency at University of Maryland, gaining the kind of patient-facing experience that no classroom can replicate.
Specializing in Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and Glaucoma Surgery is what sets Dr. Chang apart, and patients notice that depth of knowledge right from the start. Glaucoma tends to progress without causing pain or noticeable changes at first, which is exactly why Dr. Chang places a strong focus on early detection and ongoing monitoring for every patient. Cataracts are among the most common eye conditions, and Dr. Chang has helped many patients work through the process of diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery. Beyond the core specialties, Dr. Chang also handles Cataract Surgery, and Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), so patients do not have to look far for the care they need.
When not at the clinic, Dr. Chang enjoys getting out on the trails for a good hike. Dr. Chang values family life deeply, and the patience and compassion that brings carries right into the practice. Dr. Chang is available at Washington Eye Institute Rockville or Washington Eye Institute Greenbelt, so patients can choose the spot that is most convenient. The practice is built around making patients feel at ease, and Dr. Chang is proud to be at the heart of that.
