Bio
Thanh Mai, OD, FSLS, is an optometrist with a background that begins at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he built the academic skills that would shape his career. Dr. Mai followed that with a Doctor of Optometry degree from Marshall B. Ketchum University, Southern California College of Optometry, graduating summa cum laude, an experience that gave him strong clinical skills and a deep understanding of patient care. Most recently, Dr. Mai completed fellowship training in Scleral Lens Education Society, an experience that sharpened his skills and gave him real confidence in this area of eye care. All of this adds up to a provider who is both well-trained and genuinely invested in helping every patient feel their best.
Dr. Mai has dedicated a significant part of his career to Specialty Contact Lenses and Scleral Contact Lenses, and that shows in the quality of care patients receive. Contact lens fitting requires skill and attention to detail, particularly when a patient's eye has a unique shape or condition, and Dr. Mai takes a patient-by-patient approach to get it right. Dry eye happens when the eyes are not producing enough tears to stay comfortable, and it can range from a mild annoyance to something that gets in the way of daily life, which is why Dr. Mai takes it seriously. Dr. Mai rounds out his offerings with experience in Ocular Surface Disease, and Dry Eye, making for a well-rounded practice.
Professionally, Dr. Mai is affiliated with the Orange County Optometric Society, the California Optometric Association, and the Vision Source, which reflects a commitment to keeping up with the latest in eye care. Speaking Vietnamese in addition to English is something that helps Dr. Mai connect with a wider range of patients and make them feel welcome. Dr. Mai is a self-described Spider-Man fan, and that sense of responsibility carries right into patient care. Growing up with myopia gave Dr. Mai a firsthand understanding of what it is like to navigate vision challenges, and that experience still shapes how he approaches patient care. Patients are welcome to see Dr. Mai at Insight Vision Center Optometry, where every visit is designed to be as comfortable and productive as possible.
