James Milite, MD

Bio

James Milite, MD, took a bachelor's degree in chemistry summa cum laude at Fordham University, then a medical degree from New York University. The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary provided the ophthalmology residency, which closed with a year as chief resident, and both fellowships that followed, the first in ophthalmic plastic surgery, the second in ocular pathology.

The surgical practice is oculoplastic. It covers eyelids that sit too high, too low, or turn the wrong way, the removal and reconstruction of tumors around the eye, and disease of the tear drainage system and the orbit. Cosmetic eyelid work sits beside the reconstructive side and draws on the same anatomy. A second fellowship in ocular pathology means the tissue that comes out of an eyelid is read with an informed eye.

Board certification comes from the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the Castle Connolly guide has carried Dr. Milite's name every year since 2005. In Dr. Milite's own words, "Eyelid surgery is measured in millimeters, and the difference between a good result and a great one usually lives there. I would rather spend the extra time on the plan than ask a patient to accept something close enough."
