Bio
Dr. Zhang earned a Doctor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, where election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Aesculapian Merit Based Scholarship, and the Dean's Summer Research Fellowship accompanied a record of research with the Department of Ophthalmology. A transitional year at Henry Ford Hospital followed, after which Dr. Zhang continued at the same institution for ophthalmology residency. Surgical training at Henry Ford emphasized cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, ORA intraoperative aberrometry, and femtosecond laser assistance, alongside experience with LASIK and a special interest in complex anterior segment procedures.
Academic performance during residency placed Dr. Zhang in the 97th percentile on the OKAP examination as a PGY-3 and the 96th percentile as a PGY-2. Surgical training by the final year of residency included more than 250 cataract procedures and more than 50 minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. Undergraduate work at the University of Virginia, where Dr. Zhang earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry with ACS certification, set the foundation for a research-forward approach to clinical practice.
