Marena Patronas, MD

Bio

Marena Patronas, MD, is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon focused on conditions of the retina and vitreous. Undergraduate studies in biology and a medical degree at Georgetown University were followed by a transitional internship year and ophthalmology residency training in New York. A vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, completed the subspecialty pathway.

The practice centers on complex retinal disease seen across the full vitreoretinal range. Common reasons for a visit include diabetes-related damage to the retina, a detached retina, scar tissue on the macula, and a hole in the central retina, along with blocked retinal vessels and age-related vision loss. Every diagnosis comes with a plain explanation of the problem and the choices for treating it, whether that means an operation or watchful medical care over time.

Dr. Patronas holds certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and belongs to the American Society of Retina Specialists. In Dr. Patronas's own words, "My focus is on diagnosing retinal conditions accurately and explaining every option in plain language, so each patient understands what is happening and what comes next.
