Michael Maley, MD

Bio

Michael Maley, MD, is an ophthalmologist whose subspecialty fellowship was in glaucoma. An engineering degree taken magna cum laude at Harvard University came first, followed by medical school at the University of Vermont. A transitional internship in Honolulu came next, then ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. A glaucoma fellowship at the University of Iowa completed the training.

The surgical practice is glaucoma and cataract surgery, with the medical management of glaucoma running alongside it. Published work on how eye pressure shifts through the day, and on how closely the two eyes track each other, reflects an interest in the measurements those decisions rest on.

Dr. Maley is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Recognition has come each year since 2019 from Castle Connolly and from regional physician guides in New York and New Jersey. In Dr. Maley's own words, "Glaucoma is measured in decades, so the first thing I do is establish a baseline I trust and then hold to it. When a patient understands why we keep checking pressure, they stay with the plan, and staying with the plan is what protects sight."
