Monica Cook, OD

Bio

Monica Cook, OD, is an optometrist who has practiced for more than ten years. Undergraduate study came first at The University of Southern Mississippi, where Dr. Cook took a Bachelor of Science in the biological and biomedical sciences and minored in chemistry, and the Doctor of Optometry followed at Pennsylvania College of Optometry. The choice of profession was settled well before either degree. As a child, Dr. Cook watched members of the family receive treatment that changed how they lived with eye disease, and that early view of what good care can protect is what pointed the way to optometry.

LASIK and refractive surgery care has taken up much of that decade, and Dr. Cook guides those patients through their care with compassion, clarity, and attention to detail. The everyday medicine of optometry runs alongside it, from comprehensive eye examinations to dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, conditions that reward steady monitoring and plain language. Patient education carries the most weight in how Dr. Cook practices, on the reasoning that a patient who understands a diagnosis is better placed to act on it.

Away from the clinic, Dr. Cook is a New Orleanian who goes back each year for Mardi Gras balls, travels, cycles, and turns up for Phillies games, sharing a home with Bobby, a dog called Poppy, and three parrots, Bowie, Luna, and Mochi. In Dr. Cook's own words, "I want every patient to leave the exam room understanding what I found, what it means, and what comes next.
