Monisha Vora, MD

Bio

Monisha Vora, MD, is a glaucoma specialist who also performs a high volume of lens surgery. A chemistry and Hispanic studies degree taken summa cum laude at Carnegie Mellon University led to a medical degree at Stony Brook University. Medicine internship training on Long Island came first, then ophthalmology residency at North Shore LIJ with a year as chief resident, and finally a clinical and surgical glaucoma fellowship at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania.

The clinical practice spans cataract procedures with standard and premium lens options, laser assisted cataract surgery, and YAG capsulotomy. Glaucoma care runs from selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser peripheral iridotomy through minimally invasive stent procedures, trabeculectomy, tube shunts, canaloplasty, goniotomy, and bleb and tube revisions. Open angle and angle closure disease are both managed medically and surgically.

Dr. Vora holds board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and teaches on a hospital glaucoma service with an active part in resident education. Memberships span the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, and Women in Ophthalmology. Spanish, Gujarati, and Hindi are spoken in addition to English. In Dr. Vora's own words, "Glaucoma is quiet until it is not, so I would rather find it early and treat it with the least invasive option that will hold. Seeing well after cataract surgery with pressure under control is what I am working toward for every patient."
