Olivia Bruno, OD

Bio

Olivia Bruno, OD, took a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University at Albany. The optometry degree followed from the SUNY College of Optometry. Residency training in primary care and ocular disease came next, at a Veterans Affairs hospital in the Hudson Valley, with earlier internship and externship rotations at the optometry school and at that same hospital.

The daily work runs on either side of a procedure. Patients are seen beforehand for the measurements and examination that establish whether an eye is ready, and afterward for the visits that track healing, watch the pressure and the ocular surface, and catch a problem while it is still small. Between those visits sits ordinary primary eye care, because a patient having surgery still needs the rest of the eye looked after. The residency shaped that approach, in a hospital where eye findings routinely sat alongside broader medical conditions.

Dr. Bruno is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, holds board diplomate status in clinical optometry, and belongs to optometric associations at the national and state level. Volunteer time goes to the Lions Club and to a law enforcement charitable organization. In Dr. Bruno's own words, "Most of what I do is watching closely and explaining plainly, which is not dramatic but it is what keeps a recovery on track. If something looks off at two weeks, I would much rather catch it then than hear about it at three months." Patients can visit Dr. Bruno at Omni Eye Services in New Jersey.
