Bio

Reena Gupta, MD, practices ophthalmology with fellowship training in diseases and surgery of the cornea. A magna cum laude degree from Rutgers University in molecular biology, biochemistry, and psychology led to medical school at Saint Louis University. Internship training in Maryland came next, then ophthalmology residency at Tulane, where the final year was served as chief resident, and a cornea and refractive fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.

The surgical practice covers corneal transplantation in its modern forms, including penetrating keratoplasty and the endothelial techniques DSAEK and DMEK, along with superficial keratectomy for surface disease. Cross-linking is used to stabilize keratoconus and other ectasia of the cornea. Vision correction runs from laser procedures to implantable collamer lenses and clear lens exchange, and cataract surgery belongs to the same practice.

Dr. Gupta holds board certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and belongs to national societies for vision research, for cataract and refractive surgeons, and for ophthalmology at large. Presenting and publishing are a steady part of the work. Tennis, travel, cooking classes, and time with family and friends fill the hours away from clinic. In Dr. Gupta's own words, "A corneal problem is frightening because it changes how you see the world every waking minute, so I try to make the plan concrete and the timeline honest. Most of what I do comes down to restoring clarity, whether that means a transplant, cross-linking, or a lens."
