Bio

Richard Gilbert, MD, is an ophthalmologist whose path to eye care started while studying at Tufts University. Dr. Gilbert went on to earn his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude, where he gained a thorough grounding in the science and treatment of eye diseases. Dr. Gilbert completed his residency at Boston University Medical Center, where he spent years working closely with patients and refining his clinical skills. That background gives patients every reason to feel confident they are in good, experienced hands.

Dr. Gilbert has dedicated a significant part of his career to General Ophthalmology and Emergency Eye Care, and that shows in the quality of care patients receive. The way glaucoma works is that it gradually puts pressure on the optic nerve, and since it rarely causes pain in the early stages, Dr. Gilbert prioritizes thorough screenings to catch it as soon as possible. When the lens of the eye loses its transparency, vision can feel foggy or muted, and Dr. Gilbert uses up-to-date surgical techniques to help patients see clearly again. Dr. Gilbert rounds out his offerings with experience in Glaucoma, and Cataracts, making for a well-rounded practice.

When not at the clinic, Dr. Gilbert enjoys getting out on the trails for a good hike. Dr. Gilbert enjoys a round of golf now and then, a favorite way to spend time away from work. Patients are welcome to see Dr. Gilbert at ReFocus Eye Health Waterbury, where every visit is designed to be as comfortable and productive as possible. Good eye health is something that matters at every stage of life, and Dr. Gilbert is here to help.
