What is Neuro Optometric Rehabilitation?

After you have a regular eye exam that looks at your health and your sight, for certain patients there is an additional component of the eye exam. The second step during the neuro optometric portion of the exam is when the neuro optometrist looks at the brains connection to the eyes. They do that by doing a series of tests to look at how your eyes team together, how your eyes focus and how your eyes track.

What can be revealed by a neuro optometric eye exam?

Lots of times this additional assessment can reveal some underlying conditions that can impact to the visual performance and can create symptoms such as blurry vision, headaches, and eye strain. Eye strain is very common when using the computer, because you are focusing up near and your eyes have to go through a process to converge up close to focus up close and then your eyes must track what you are doing on the computer screen.

Who do you recommend should do this extra assessment?

Anyone that has symptoms and is not experiencing the world optimally should do have a more comprehensive exam. Furthermore it is strongly recommended that anyone who has had a concussion, stroke or traumatic injury involving the brain and experiences any visual disturbances should schedule an appointment. So if you're having any symptoms it might be a good idea to get checked out by a Behavioural Optometrist somebody that is experienced at looking at these extra areas of our vision, to make sure your vision is at its best.
